Robert "Bobby” Lovergne Jr. was elected Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. on July 29, 2026, at the 127th VFW National Convention in Reno, Nevada.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1983 to 2002, earning his VFW eligibility by serving in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with two devices, Air Force Achievement Medal with three devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with five devices, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices, Air Force Expeditionary Medal with one device, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three devices, Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, and the Kuwait Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, among several other decorations.
Bobby joined the VFW in 1991 at Post 1736 in Alexandria, Louisiana, later transferring to Post 3750 in Luling, Louisiana, where he maintains his Gold Legacy Life membership. He has served in elected and appointed positions at the Post, District and Department levels, culminating with his election as the Department of Louisiana Commander in 2020, in which he achieved All-American status. On the national level, he has served on the Veterans Service Resolutions Committee, Programs Committee, Finance and Internal Organization Committee, and recently on the National Council of Administration, and has served as Special Aide-de-Camp and National Deputy Chief of Staff.
He attended the NCO Leadership School in 1989, where he received his Associate of Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force, and was a certified Air Force recruiter. Bobby retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant and is employed as the professional learning center coordinator for the St. Charles Parish School Board. He is a member of the American Legion, Military Order of the Cootie and is a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bobby and his wife, Nellie, reside in Luling, Louisiana.
