Peter Pennelle was born in New York
City, New York on September 25, 1946. He enlisted in the USMC in December of 1965
and completed basic training in Paris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, Peter
received orders to the Republic of Vietnam, assigned to Second Battalion, 7thMarines.
During Peter’s military service he was awarded the
Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal
w/one Star, and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/combat device.
Peter joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1995 as
a member of Post 5491, Mahopac, New York. Peter transferred to Post 672 in Brewster,
New York where he is currently a Bronze Legacy Life Member. Peter has served in
many capacities in the organization to include Commander at the Post, County
and District levels. Peter has served at the Department level as Assistant Sgt.
at Arms, Audit Committee, Judge Advocate, and Jr. and Sr. Vice Commander. Peter
is currently serving as our Department Commander.
Peter retired after 20 years as a Firefighter with
the Fairview Fire Department in Greenburg, New York. Peter currently serves as
the Sr. Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 1542 in Patterson, NY and is
on the planning board for the town of Pawling, New York. Peter is currently the
District Administrator for District 33 Little League Baseball and is a Past Commandant
of the Putnam County, New York Marine Corps League in Carmel, New York.
Peter has three daughters, Lisa, Kelli and Theresa. Peter
has five granddaughters Kayla, Riley, Ashley, Jillian, and Charlie. Peter is
committed to the mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
and stands firmly behind our motto that "No one Does More for Veterans.”
