Drafted into the US Army, September 24, 1968.

Received basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Received AIT training in Infantry at Fort Polk, Louisiana with specialize training for Jungle warfare.

Eligibility for VFW - Deployed to Viet Nam in March 1969 to March 1970

Duty was with the 9th Infantry Division operating in (Mekong Delta).

Following return to the US, was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

Awards and medals: Combat Infantry Badge;  Bronze Star Medal with "V” device; Air Medal; Army Commendation; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/palm; National Defense Medal; Civil Action Medal w/Oak Leaf;  Viet Nam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal. Inducted into NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

Joined the Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial VFW Post 9249 in 1971

Presently a Gold Legacy Life member

Post offices ~ Post Quartermaster for 1 year and Post Commander for 5 years

Past Erie County Council Commander 2 years

Past Commander District 6 VFW Department of New York

Served as Department of New York VFW Patriotic Instructor; Chairman of Membership Committee, Commanders Special Project, Community Service and Teacher’s Awards, Inspector.

Member of the Grand Island Fire Company for 63 years, holding many Administrative and Firematic Offices. LT, Captain, Chairman Board of review, Board of Directors. Truck, Building, Finance, Canteen, Uniform, and By-Laws Committees.

Member of the original Paramedic crew with the Grand Island Fire Company for 26 years.

The 9-1-1 Emergency CommunicationsSupervisor for over 14 years. Management of around the clock 9-1-1 center. Hiring, Training, Quality Control, Budget, Expansion and updates.
